It’s Art Dad is a collection of songs recorded between 1991 and 1996, when The Clientele were a quartet of school friends in Hampshire. Before Suburban Light, the band made an album’s worth of demos in guitarist and songwriter Innes Phillips’ attic, defending themselves against frequent parental protests with the claim that what they were doing was art. Their subsequent rejection letter from Sub Pop is still lovingly preserved. Originally released as a limited tour CD in 2005, these songs are now available digitally for the first time.
